Moon Cake Festival

Every day I am learning more about Chinese traditions which makes for an interesting life.

Leo is flat out at the moment as harvest has begun on the farm, the temperature has dropped slightly and the leaves are starting to fall off the trees which means the Mid Autumn Festival is about to begin.

The Mid Autumn Festival is a celebration of the Harvest Moon where friends and family get together to celebrate and give thanks to the harvest moon by sharing moon cakes. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar when the moon is at its brightest.

We were lucky enough to be given some beautifully packaged moon cakes and as you can see they are a work of art. They have a type of pastry on the outside and have different fillings such as red bean or lotus seed paste. They are such heavy little things and maybe they are an acquired taste as none of us like the taste of them but they sure are pretty to look at.
